Mara Driscoll

Gyrokinesis
Picture
Mara was inspired to dance at a young age
I am originally from Boulder, Colorado, and when I was two years old, my dad went to our public library. He rented videos of Margot Fontaine and Mikael Baryshnikov because he thought I might be interested in ballet. I've never looked back.

Mara's class is based in Gyrotonics, aka "dancers' yoga"
Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis are movement systems that helps every body reach its potential, feel connected, enlivened, opened, and strengthened. It utilizes and expands on a lot of the breath and spiritual centering of yoga, while opening the spine and joints and strengthening the core, legs, and back. My class incorporates many Gyro exercises, with additional stretch and relaxation elements.

Her journey as a dancer includes many amazing experiences.
Highlights include performing as child Clara in the Boulder Nutcracker, winning the Denver Ballet Guild Competition, competing in the Youth America Grand Prix New York Finals, attending North Carolina School of the Arts, performing George Balanchine's "Serenade" at the Hollywood Bowl (with fellow Ballet Spot teacher Ali Block!), performing in Balanchine's Four Temperaments with the Richmond Ballet, performing at Jacob's Pillow Inside Out Dance Festival with various New York-based companies, touring to Scotland with Buggé Ballet, touring to Australia with Artists by Any Other Name, setting my own choreography on New Chamber Ballet and the companies of Salome and Medea at New York Theatre Workshop, every moment I've spent onstage at the Metropolitan Opera with the Met Opera Ballet. Is that too many? My journey as a dancer has been challenging but glorious.

Mara is passionate about sharing art with others!
My hope and dream is to connect to art, movement, beauty, and creativity and to share those experiences with as many people as I can!
